The shortness of distances in Cyprus and the possession by nearly every family
of at least one car, which is used for journeys both in and outside the cities,
have inhibited the development of public transport. In fact, public transport is
confined mainly to urban bus services, and bus use itself has declined in recent
years.
Taxi services within and between cities are provided by many private operators. The road network is being improved continuously with the aim of reducing accidents and of providing safe access to all areas of the country. The cities are linked by four-lane motorways, and generally the roads are of a very high standard. There are no road tolls. Cyprus uses right-hand drive vehicles, with driving on the left. Fuel can be bought at money-operated pumps outside normal filling station hours. There are two international airports (Larnaca and Paphos) in the areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. There are no internal flights. There are two sea ports (Limassol and Larnaca). Cyprus has three marinas, one at Larnaca, one at the Agios Raphael hotel in Limassol and one at Latsi.
