Cost of Living
You can find comparative information for all the EU countries on the EU's "Europe in figures" website, Eurostat. This will enable you to compare the situation in your own country with the situation in Cyprus.

Generally speaking, the cost of living in Cyprus is relatively high, when salaries and prices are taken into account. The large increase in fuel prices in recent years has led to a chain of increases in the prices of all products and services.

You can get an idea of prices from the prices charged in restaurants. The average restaurant charge is from €14 to €25 per person, inclusive of the drink.

Indicatively, the harmonised consumer price index rose by 1.6% in April 2007, compared with April 2006. The mean harmonised consumer price index rose by 1.9% in May 2007, compared with 2.5% in May 2006.

Information on these matters is available on the websites of the Central Bank of Cyprus, the Statistical Service, the Ministry of Finance and the Cyprus Consumers’ Association.
